Bridal Makeup 101

Your special day has finally come… It’s the day you’ve dreamed of your entire life – your wedding day!!

With so much to do, the last thing that should be on your mind should be your makeup. Because your wedding day is so special, it must be perfect from every angle. This means your makeup should be absolutely flawless and perfect for everyone to ‘Ooo’ and ‘Aaahhh’ as you float down the aisle.  Read on for the best of the best makeup list to ensure that you are picture perfect on your day of happiness.

About Face!

There is no doubt that the first thing people will gaze upon is the bride,  which is why many brides give special attention to getting the perfect complexion.  For some,  they have turned to airbrush makeup as their choice of makeup.  Airbrush makeup is sprayed through an air compressor and is delivered as a fine mist of color that gently covers the skin.  This yields the appearance of a flawless face free from fine lines, dark spots, enlarged pores, and unwanted marks.  Also,  most airbrush makeup is water-based,  so once it is sprayed on,  it dries instantly to a matte finish that has, on average,  about 18 hours of wear.  It will not fade or melt,  and it does not require re-application.  I like the Luminess Air System ($179  Ulta.com) because it  offers a comprehensive range of colors and products.  The system is very easy to use,  extremely portable (especially with the cute silver clutch is comes in!),  and the colors are very easy to blend.  I have attended 3 weddings this season, and through the summer heat and sweat,  my makeup did not waver and stayed flawless all day.  And because the entire line is water-based,  it  minimizes pores, the appearance of wrinkles and fine lines and evens out skin tones for the look of perfection!

To look like the charming, blushing bride that you are, a hint of color is an absolute must for your wedding day. You want a product that will be long-lasting,  but also lightweight to give that sheer flushed look. I’ve always turned to Benefit’s Benetint ($29 Sephora) to take you all the way from the ceremony to that final dance. It can be used on cheeks for a rosy glow, and also applied to lips under lipstick,  so that once it wears off you are still left with a hint of sexy color.

The Eyes Have It

*

The eyes can be the window to the soul, so help your peepers shine on your big day. For the perfect and classic smokey eye,  follow these steps:

Starting from the inner corner, brush hair in an upward and outward motion. Next, take your brush and gently run it across the top of the brows to push longer, stray strands into line.  Tweeze out any strays.

Apply shadow starting from the outer corner—you’ll deposit the least amount of color in the inner corner for an eye-opening effect. Starting at the inner corner, blend with a rounded brush. I’ve recently discovered  YSL Pure Chromatics Eyeshadow Quad,  which is a wet/dry palette. While wet/dry eye shadows are not exactly a new concept, this YSL quad offers a different texture, formula and applicator to get the most of the colors in these quads.

Highlighting beneath the brow helps define the arch and cover up any short hairs that are difficult to remove. Choose shimmery skin tones, applying the shadow to the end of the brow line and blending out with a flat brush to create a seamless finish.

To curl lashes, look down into a mirror. Starting at the roots, slowly squeeze the curler, hold it in place for 10 to 30 seconds, then release. Repeat three or four times, working out toward the lash ends.

Next,  intensify your eyes by applying eyeliner. Start from the outside corner and stop where the lashes thin out.  I loooove how Makeup For Ever eyeliners wear all day.  Their pencils are very soft and apply almost like a cream,  and don’t budge.  For those proficient with liquid liner,  MUFE just came out with their Aqualiner (Makeupforever.com)  which delivers all of its promises- smudge-resistant, long-wearing and waterproof. The superstar is its applicator,  which makes the process fool-proof!

Finally,  make the eyes pop with dark mascara. For your day,  I would suggest choosing a water-proof for the many emotional moments you will have on your special day.  My favorite? Blinc Kiss Me Mascara ($24 at Sephora) not only adds both volume and length, but it also looks very natural because it acts like fake lashes in a tube.  The mascara wraps around your lashes individually and forms tiny tubes,  and once applied, the tubes bind to your lashes and cannot run, smudge, clump, or flake, even if you cry or rub your eyes. Neither water nor pressure alone will remove Kiss Me Mascara. Only the combination of lots of warm water and gentle pressure will slide the tiny tubes effortlessly off your lashes into your hand. Upon removal, you will actually see the tiny tubes slide into your hand.

Lip Service

The last thing you want on your big day is lipstick stuck on your teeth or lipstick that gets on everything around you.  For the big day,  choose a lipstick that is long-lasting, and will keep your teeth and dress pearly white throughout the night. I recommend Senegence LipSense ($25 senegence.com) because it is unlike any conventional lipstick, stain or color. As the original long-lasting lip color, it is waterproof, does not kiss-off, smear-off, rub-off or budge-off.  And, just as important it does not dry out lips.  It actually restores the moisture content of lips when used properly.
