HBA Global & Spa/Resort Expo 2011
| Summer just got more beautiful here in New York, especially since the annual HBA Global and Spa/Resort Expo hit the Big Apple! This year’s conference was held at the Jacob Javits Convention Center. |

The HBA Global Expo/ Medical Spa & ResortExpo has been held for 18 consecutive years to educate, inform and connect professionals in the cosmetic, fragrance and personal care industry. For three days attendees had the chance to attend workshops, conferences and keynotes as well as hundreds of booths to try new products. The 2011 HBA Global Expo showcased the top personal care and beauty manufacturers with the entire spectrum of new ingredients, solutions, supplier resources as well as world-class education to help bring new products and innovative concepts to market.

The 2011 HBA Conference offers more than 60 educational sessions that summarized the new strides made in the beauty business. This year had amazing panel speakers, which included Dr. Howard Murad, Dr. Neil Sadick, Perry Romanowski(The BeautyBrains), Emmy award-winning makeup artist, Eve Pearl, and the best of the best in the science and business of beauty.
New and noteworthy this year included the Trend Spot, where attendees got to hear beauty professionals speak and showcase their expertise via presentations and live demonstrations. Beauty bloggers received much more attention at the new Social Spot that held presentations and discussions on the importance of social media. There was also a beauty blogger meet and greet that allowed fellow bloggers to exchange ideas and talk beauty.

HBA also recognizes NYC philanthropists and gives the Positively Beautiful Award every year to celebrity influentials. The Positively Beautiful Award was established by HBA Global to recognize a celebrity who uses their name and talent to further causes that champion inner-beauty and self-esteem building. National TV personality, food journalist, and former model, Kelly Choi, received the 3rd Annual HBA Positively Beautiful Award on behalf of her charitable work with Angelwish, an organization that helps raise awareness for children living with HIV/Aids and other chronic illnesses and Citymeals-on-Wheels, who provides a continuous lifeline of nutritious food and human company to home-bound elderly New Yorkers in need.

Although the education this year was one of the best, the event’s Beauty Bar (or lack of one) was disappointing. Samples were largely down-sized than previous years, as less companies opted to sponsor product samples and giveaways to VIP, Platinum Partners, and Press. Looks like economic aftershocks are still affecting all industries. Nevertheless, the 2011 Expo was a huge success, and I can’t wait to attend next year’s show!
